Women's Views Biennial 2016 arises with hope, strength, and renewed spirits to show the creative potential of women and the marks it leaves on our state's art system and internationally.
From March to December 2016, the Women's Views Biennial will bring together initiatives that make women and gender issues a source for reflection, debate and creation.
The Women's Views Biennial aims to show women's creative activities in all their wide-ranging local as well as international manifestations, and their engagement with social contexts and global citizenship issues.
While more traditional biennials tend to concentrate on a single city, capturing the snapshot in a specific space of creation, MAV - Mujeres en las Artes Visuales (Women in the Visual Arts) - commits to a reformulation of the concept by exploring an alternative model, conducting projects in different places be they real or virtual, cross-sectional works in a variety of media and formats that visibilise women's position in society and in contemporary creation, from Latin America to Saudi Arabia and across the many territories of the Spanish state.
The Women's Views Biennial reformulates the festival initiated by MAV in 2012, which counts three editions so far. It presents a renovated figure in its structure and processes that tends towards a horizontal and participative model privileging quality to quantity, and transparency and fair practice in its work methodology.
