Margaret Harrison boldly challenges preconceived notions of gender by feminizing the male’s body and analyzing the labor situation of women through a strategy of altering traditional power roles. Her works attempt to put art at the service of feminist activism. Coming from the so-called liberating 60s, this British activist realized, in a very early stage, that the private is political and depicted this idea in satirical subversions of the gender roles assigned by society and the mass media.

Several international institutions have presented solo shows of Harrison such as New Museum New York, MiMA Middlesbourgh or Azkuna Centroa Bilbao, among others. She has also participated in many institucional shows hosted by Tate Modern and Victoria&Albert Museum London, Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, MoMA New York, Sharjah Art Foundation or Museo Chiado Portugal. Her works are in several public collections: Tate and Victoria & Albert Museum, Manchester Metropolitan University and University of California, among others.
