From July 10th to September 8th, 2024

The world has been immersed in wars that capture the attention of public opinion for months. But we forget the numerous conflicts taking place in the African continent. Especially women have to endure the consequences: food crises, physical and sexual violence, insecurity, discrimination, and inequality, while they helplessly witness how child exploitation prevails and their own children are often forced to participate in armed conflicts, as well as the desolation produced by the fact that thousands of people attempt to cross the sea, losing their lives, in search of better opportunities.

This project emphasizes and insists on the urgent need for harmony for the African continent, doing so through the action of sewing, from which the word PEACE emerges in different languages of the continent: Amharic, Arabic, Bambara, French, Igbo, Lingala, Oromo, Portuguese, Shona, Somali, Swahili, and Yoruba.

The white of the words symbolizes order, over the representative color of blood, fire, and revolution. And with the embroidered thread, an exercise of reflection, denunciation, and memory is carried out on burlap that also evokes other sad messages conveyed when instances of support, protection, and defense of victims of human rights violations were organized.

The work itself is a textile installation composed of twelve embroidered panels (each 24 x 24 cm), created by the author in 2023.
