Women in the Visual Arts

Women's Views Biennial 2018 arises with hope, strength, and renewed spirits to show the creative potential of women and the marks it leaves on our state's art system and internationally.

From March to December 2018, the Women's Views Biennial will bring together initiatives that make women and gender issues a source for reflection, debate and creation.

From March to December, the Women in the Visual Arts Biennial hosts a series of initiatives that promote the participation of women in art and their return to the front lines of society.

The second biennial has maintained an open format not limited to one venue or time period, exploring alternative models to promote cross-cutting projects and works-in-progress that reveal and highlight the position of women in society and in the contemporary arts.

Once again, this year we are helping to produce five projects, selected following an open call for proposals. These will be joined by the guest projects, initiatives promoted by different institutions and organisations which MAV feels deserve to be shared with a wider audience.
We embrace a methodology based on sisterhood and reciprocity as tools of cooperation and dialogue. We continue to view gender as pillar of creativity and a catalyst of thought and debate, convinced that there is still a great deal to be found, told and revealed.

This biennial is MAV’s contribution to an increasingly complex world in need of change, an expression of its commitment to a different way of relating with and integrating “the other” in an open, diverse, global concept of citizenship, where women have much to say and do.
